Don't Let the Camera Scare You!

NBN&F and Bluffs HOA Wildlife CameraOn September 24, 2009, the Newport Bay Naturalists and Friends installed their first wildlife camera on the east bluff (EB-1) thanks to the support of the Bluffs Homeowners Community Association. The actual camera location is in front of 301 Enero. ( N33 38'26 and W117 53'01). It is on the greenbelt just above the gravel emergency access road that comes up from Back Bay Drive. Its purpose is to identify and quantify wildlife activity using this corridor. The camera was tagged with instructions to call NBN&F if there are questions.

Bluffs' Board President, Don Passaglia, reports: "This is an exciting joint project for the Bluffs and NBN&F. The camera is motion activated and runs 24/7. The intent is to capture any animals that live in our area. Also, the camera has a flash so people may see a slight flash at night as animals set off the camera. Homeowners should not be alarmed about the flashes during darkness hours."

What You Might Need to Know About Coyotes and Raccoons
CoyoteCoyotes and raccoons continue to visit Bluffs' neighborhoods. In the August Bluffs' News residents were warned about an aggressive raccoon who was seen chasing homeowners in the Vista Bonita and Vista Caudal area. This past week it is reported that a coyote jumped a wrought iron fence and attacked a pet cat. In an effort to assist neighbors on how to help prevent dangerous conflicts with our wild neighbors you can click here to download a brochure provided by the California Fish and Game Department. Take precaution and stay safe. On September 12, 2008, a new topic, Coyote Threat, was started on our Message Board. We invitie you to click here to participate in this Message Board topic.
