Meet Patricia Wright Ellis
Patricia is a beautiful woman and a woman who could easily pass for 20 plus years younger than she is. You’re instantly aware of her girlish figure, her vibrant red hair, her ready and beautiful smile, and her youthfulness. While I was beguiled by Patricia’s outer beauty, I had no idea what an amazing story she had to tell. Read the full article here.

Meet Dr. Alice Thie Vieira
Who would have thought that amongst our neighbors would be a noted author and clinical psychologist, who when you meet her, at first, looks like another pretty, bright lady, who happens to be our neighbor? If you lived on the "L" streets you might have met such a lady. Meet Dr. Alice Thie Vieira. She has a brand new book out called Horrible Mothers. Recently neighbors Mary Foster and Nina Bagdasar hosted a book signing party which was a great succes, see the photo album. The party discussion showed the "insightful and thorough exploration of the many issues surrounding mothers whose behavior is or has been emotionally damaging to their children" that Dr. Viera has studied. This is not exactly upbeat conversation but is definitely something that is worth addressing. The book also gives clues to what good parenting is all about. Click here to read a Book Review.

Website Features New Neighborhood Watch Page
We are always trying to find ways to make our HOA website a more vital resource for our residents. We now have a page for our Website Registered Users that is dedicated to our Neighborhood Watch Program.
Have you ever wanted to become involved with Neighborhood Watch? With our busy lives we sometimes feel that we dont have time to volunteer for one more committee; however, participation in the Neighborhood Watch program can fit easily into your day to day routine. For example, on your morning walk or jog you can practice being more observant of unfamiliar people or cars, or while you walk your dog you might notice a broken window or a door ajar, or while enjoying your patio or deck you might hear something suspicious. Basically it means finding time in your day to watch out for your neighbors and, in the long run, protecting yourself and your neighborhood.

Bluffs' Looking For Veterans' Histories
As a part of our Bluffs' History efforts we would like to gather a collection of people and their histories that help develop a historical record of Bluffs' participation in such historic times as World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraq and Afghanistan, to name a few.
Recognizing that many of our residents have served in the US military, the National Guard and as reservists, we would like to honor that service by highlighting some of your stories. The October issue of the Bluffs' News includes a questionnaire, for our on-line readers you can download the questionnaire here and either email it to Dave Wallace or return it to the office. Photos are also great. Don't we all have great photos of our veterans?
An Affordable and Wonderful American Flag
Do you have an American flag? Many Bluffs' neighbors fly the flag every day or on important Federal holidays. It is a nice tradition. Certainly you can purchase the American flag at any number of stores or even on-line, but did you ever wonder how you could order an American Flag that has been flown over the Unites States Captiol? Every U.S. Senator offers a Flag Purchase Service. If you visit Senator Feinstein's site by clicking here you will get all the details. Remember due to the high volume of requests, please allow 8-12 weeks for processing and delivery.
The other important thing is that you want to be able to dispose appropriately of your tired and worn out American Flag that you are replacing. Flags are not burned anymore. We recommend that you take any old flags to Nikkis Flag Shop at 475 Old Newport Blvd. in Newport Beach near Hoag Hospital. They are open Monday thru Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. If you need a flag sooner than the Capitol one, you could probably buy one there. Their phone number is 949-646-5166 949-646-5166 .

Homeownership Humor by Tony Knox
It's In the Tank!
Irma Bombeck said, "When humor goes, there goes civilization." When asked to write something humorous for this website, little did we know that we might be helping to save civilization!
What about bathroom humor. Whoa! Dont go there! But really, sometimes you can learn from humor. And from toilets.
One of our toilets got to singing lately. At first, it was just a single high pitched screech. Then, as time went on, it took on a variable warble. Never a tune, but there was diversity. Eventually, it sang not only when the tank was filling, but it started to sing on its own, whenever it liked. And loud! It seemed to take on a new life; or, maybe the space aliens somehow intercepted it.
We just laughed when the toilet started to sing, but maybe the folks in the adjoining condo didn't appreciate it too much. In fact, it was probably a violation of one of the Bluffs' rules, or, dread the thought, the CC&Rs. So, finally, off we went to Ace, the Friendly Place, for a new valve and flapper.
Most of you know this, but to replace the valve and flapper, it is first necessary to bend over, lift up and take off the heavy ceramic lid from the back. It probably won't give you a hernia, but it's awkward, noisy, wet, and it isn't an altogether pleasant experience. However, it can be a learning experience.
On the underside of every ceramic lid is a bunch of numbers. When you run out of things to do, you might just check out the numbers inside your own toilet. You will see, among the numbers, a year. Ours says "1964". As it turns out, ceramic toilet makers stamp the year of manufacture right there on that lid. It is also likely the year your house was built.
Now, we bet you didn't know that. It's one of the many worthwhile facts you can learn from a toilet. So, the next time someone asks you how old your house is, remember our singing toilet, and you will know exactly what to do.
Oh, by the way, once we did the repair, we had to change the name of our fixture from "Pavarotti" to "Silent Partner".

A Garage Sale by Any Other Name...
A garage sale by any other name...
In October our garage sale is the Do-it-Yourself variety and some neighbors entered in most enthusiastically.
Susan on Vista Flora got some great signs up including one on Jamboree and Eastbluff that definitely generated some interest but even better still, served fabulous Breakfast Burritos to some of her neighbors. You see, her mother was visiting from Phoenix and was her secret chef. They were a great pair and had a wonderful day. Susan is the trainer you can find on Friday mornings in the Fiesta Room leading the Bluffs Exercise Group.
Dale on Lucia had a special twist on her sale. It was all part of her early fund raising campaign to raise money on behalf of CHOC ( and the CHOC Follies) and the upcoming show "The Wizard of OC" which will be held April 1-3, 2010 at Orange Coast College. She sold 90% of her stuff while letting everyone know that all the proceeds were going to CHOC. It really touched some shoppers' hearts because in some cases people paid extra just to be supportive. How great was THAT?! She and her fellow volunteers are holding show auditions at the Islands Hotel in Fashion Island November 1 (2-4 p.m.) and November 4 (6-8 p.m.) for anyone interested. You don't have to have any special talent...but "if you can talk, you can sing; if you can walk, you can dance!" That's all they require to be eligible...PLUS the commitment to sell a minimum of $1000.00 for tickets, sponsorships, ads, etc. "After all, it IS a fundraiser!" says Dale.
Michelle on Vista Grande was still busy working on Sunday. We were wondering if those good looking wet suits sold by the end of the day.
Don't Let the Camera Scare You!
On September 24, 2009, the Newport Bay Naturalists and Friends installed their first wildlife camera on the east bluff (EB-1) thanks to the support of the Bluffs Homeowners Community Association. The actual camera location is in front of 301 Enero. ( N33 38'26 and W117 53'01). It is on the greenbelt just above the gravel emergency access road that comes up from Back Bay Drive. Its purpose is to identify and quantify wildlife activity using this corridor. The camera was tagged with instructions to call NBN&F if there are questions.
Bluffs' Board President, Don Passaglia, reports: "This is an exciting joint project for the Bluffs and NBN&F. The camera is motion activated and runs 24/7. The intent is to capture any animals that live in our area. Also, the camera has a flash so people may see a slight flash at night as animals set off the camera. Homeowners should not be alarmed about the flashes during darkness hours."

Music on the Green - Summer 2009
Another great, happy evening for Bluffs residents and their families and friends at this 2009 Summer's Music on the Green! And even a few other broader neighbors who saw the sign joined in with full delight. Many came early in the day to stake out their place. Those homes directly on the greenbelt had numerous patio parties. A very organized group on the Vista Dorado street set up headquarters at a strategic location and used the event to welcome numerous new neighbors.
Whether you were old or young there was something for everyone. There was our favorite face painter giving children painted ice cream cones on their cheeks. There was a balloon man, Air-Jer, who brought smiles to the kids faces making balloon hats and balloon animals and making Darth Vader something-or-others. There were cookies and coffee from a Seniors organization. Speaking of cookies, one of the big hits of the day was the table full of cookies that the children decorated with all kinds of creativity and glee. The music was loud and connecting for lots of the folks. Particularly by dusk the dancers found the one cement area and danced to the light of the beautiful new moon.
Manouche and Jim Ragsdale made a real party of it, as did Beth and Dave Hopkins with an international set of guests, and Connie and Ray Way really did the party thing with everyone willing to smile for the website picture. Smaller groups gathered with Bonnie and Don Christensen, and Judy and Bob Carlson, Judith and Chuck Adams, Catherine and Bob McNair and many, many more. There were lots of three generation groups. Everyone was having a joyous time.
Many thanks to Tom Unvert, 3 Car Garage, who provided the music, and Arnulfo and the staff who supported the whole effort. They did a great job! What a great hooray for the end of summer here in the Bluffs. How blessed are we?! Be sure to look at the pictures and see if you can find yourselves there. Happy Summer!

Staying Alert - Staying Safe
Yesterday, August 18, 2009, our local Eastbluff Drive Bank of America branch was robbed. To read more about this story see the Daily Pilot's article here. We bring this to your attention as a reminder of what we can all do to stay safe. Last evening our neighbors, Barbara Wallace and Fran Fleishman, once again attended the Newport Beach Police Departments(NBPD) Local Neighborhood Watch meeting. Barbara and Fran volunteer for the Bluffs to stay informed with the NBPD. Here are the tips offered by NBPD:
Crimes of opportunity are based on making it easy for the robber so...
- Always lock your car
- Take your belongings inside with you, particularly purses, iPods, GPS electronics, check books, diaper bags, laptops, etc.
- Make a copy of all of your cards in your walled so when the officer asks you what you lost you can tell him/her
- Make sure your mail is picked up and newspaper, too, when you are away
Always lock your home before leaving, even to borrow sugar from your neighbor.

Neighbors Meeting Neighbors: Ladies of the "L" Streets
Ladera, Laredo, Largo, Lorenzo and Lucia
What do three bright, able women do when they think it would be fun and good for more neighbors to know each other?
Lynne Burns, Mary Foster and Alice Viera decided that the best way to start that was to plan a potluck wine and cheese gathering, and that is exactly what they did. Invitations went out, and August 6th the invited "Ladies of the "L" Streets" gathered at the Laredo Pool, where some met each other for the first time. Among them were a financial planner, a college dean, a college professor, a one time movie actress, a minister's wife, a handbag designer entrepreneur, several realtors, a travel agent, several homemakers, two interior designers, a researcher, and a professional dog-walker. Everyone was introduced and some had lived here over 20 and 30 years, others had been here just a few years, and one wasn't quite moved in yet, but glad to get to know her soon to be neighbors.
The food was good from homemade smoked salmon mousse to guacamole, shrimp, veggies of all kinds, artichoke dip, mixed fish dip, dry roasted nuts and grapes. Sparkling water, soft drinks, cabernet sauvignon, sangiovese, chardonnay all quenched everyone's thirst.
The hostesses proved their point that "lots of interesting women live on the "L" streets." One lady was heard commenting that she had met a number of women she would surely like to visit with again sometime. They certainly provided a model for other streets to gather and mingle and learn more about their neighbors. Summertime proved just the right time to try this. Thanks indeed to this great trio of hostesses. See our photo album here.

Young at Heart Bluffs' Social Luncheon
By Judy Tracy
How can you make a difference? Well, one small group in this Newport Beach community decided to make a difference in the lives of Bluffs homeowners in the Young at Heart age group. All who are 65 and older were invited to a very special lunch at the Fiesta Room, on Saturday, May 2nd. More than forty guests arrived and were treated to a delicious lunch of quiche, fresh fruit, and many delicious desserts.
At one point, each guest shared their name, their street, and often a warm thought about living in the Bluffs. People found they had neighbors they hadnt known before. It was a wonderful opportunity to feel part of this community and to stay connected.
Long time homeowners Bob Paulson, Millie Ries, Barbara and Dave Wallace, Barbara and Mac MacAdam, Don and Bev Winans, Annette and Ed Cates, and Digger Odell were among the guests. May birthday guests, Terry ONeil, Bob Reuter, and soon to be 96 year old Florence Levine took home lovely hydrangea plant gifts. Victor Rumbellow rode his bike over while his wife, Olive rode in her electric cart. Who says going green is just for the young!
Huge thanks go to Catherine and Bob McNair of Fiesta, and Jack and Carolyn Burns of Avenida Cumbre, and the rest of their small group: Bev and Lou Sheldon, Joan and Fred Hearn (North Bluffs), Patty Sweede and Cheryl and Jack Hawley who gave a most generous gift to this community.

Because the Good Samaritan was good enough to pick up the family member and bring him home, the family was able to get him to HOAG hospital within minutes, and he is now discharged and recovering. The grateful family is seeking to talk to the Good Samaritan again, as their family member has complete amnesia for the event and they need to determine if he simply stumbled or if he blacked out and then fell. Anything the Good Samaritan saw or noticed or can recall will be very helpful in his future treatment. If you are the Good Samaritan, we ask that you complete the web contact form and the website adminstrator will put you in touch with the family. Please know the family is just trying to solve the puzzle, this is not about lawyers or lawsuits. The family thanks you for aiding their loved one.

However, many new neighbors frequently search for information about the most simple items like what day of the week collection occurs, what is the holiday schedule or what is the city willing to collect. This novel traces the narrator's inner journey, setting out to derive meaning from past and present events, and takes place in Ireland and England. Its title refers to the funeral of Liam Hegarty, an alcoholic who committed suicide in the sea at Brighton. His mother and eight of the nine surviving Hegarty children gather in Dublin for his wake. The novel's narrator is 39-year-old Veronica, the sibling who was closest to Liam. She looks through her family's troubled history to try to make sense of his death. She thinks that the reason for his alcoholism lies in something that happened to him in his childhood when he stayed in his grandmother's house. She uncovers uncomfortable truths about her family.

The Polar Express ~ a fun event for all who came aboard - December 14th
The 2nd Annual Polar Express Party was held on December 14th and this year was even better than last. Both the young and the young at heart joined in the fun, children and some adults arriving in their pajama wear, some being assigned the roles of an elf and Santa, and all enjoying the reading of The Polar Express, the famous story written Chris Van Allsburg.
Darlene Williams was dressed in a beautiful blue satin costume complete with silver stars and a sparkling headband. As she blew the traditional train whistle the children and adults gathered around to hear her read The Polar Express. Adding to the festivities, Kristen Lopez of the Bluffs office staff, created delicious hot chocolate presented with candy canes, Christmas cookies were decorated and coloring pages were completed by the children. Each child received a special bell as a commemorative gift. The Board of Directors would like to thank Tom Unvert for planning the event (pop-corn machine and all), Kristen Lopez for adding all the special touches, Darlene Williams for being our story teller, and particularly all the children, parents, and grandparents who participated. Reminders and Requests from your Board of Directors
Once again we remind you that raccoons are very cute, but they should not be approached or fed. One neighbor reported about a very aggressive raccoon that entered her home via a doggy door. After a quick tour of the house the raccoon could not find the exit, until the homeowner coaxed him back outdoors. Remember, raccoons can carry disease and be a threat to your pets. In the May 2008 Bluffs' News the Board announced the installation of doggie bag dispensers. The intent of the dispensers was to encourage residents to pick up after their pet(s). While the bags are being used, some residents are not taking the used bags home for disposal. The Board encourages everyone's cooperation to help keep our walkways and greenbelts beautiful. Also, a friendly reminder, the City of Newport Beach has a strict leash law. Some neighbors have reported loose dogs engaging in fights with leashed dogs. If you notice excessive air traffic noise, you are encouraged to call the Airport Noise Abatement phone number (949) 252-5185. It is important to make sure to mention the time of day and your location at the time of the call. This information is important to trace possible violators. This phone number is always located on our web site's home page, in the "Important Numbers" box.

Attention All Bluffs Neighbors! If you needed help do you know how to get it? Recently one family in the Bluffs needed two visits in one week from the 911/Paramedics team. By acting immediately a husband saved his wife from severe disability due to a stroke. His quick action in calling 911 enabled her to receive the immediate help in the first hour following her first symptoms, and she is already home and doing wonderfully well. There is a program called FIRE MEDICS ACULERT. For a yearly fee of $48.00 which basically covers full paramedic and ambulance costs for the year, you can get the kind of help you need instead of paying the hundreds of dollars it would usually cost. This is for Newport Beach residents. If you have any questions call 949-644-3383. Youll want to renew it each year. Dont wait! Do it today! Stop by your local Fire Department Headquarters next door to the Police Department Headquarters on Santa Barbara near Jamboree Road. The Bluffs Office will have some information too. According to the City of Newport Beach web site: The Fire Medics is a voluntary program of the Newport Beach Fire Department. Its purpose is to protect you against the unexpected costs of paramedic services and emergency ambulance transportation. All residences and business located in the incorporated area of Newport Beach are eligible for membership. Whether you want to pay the $48 annual subscription fee in one lump sum or in several installments, theres an easy pay plan for you! The annual subscription is simply added to your City of Newport Beach Municipal Services Statement for your water and sewer services. If you are wondering why you should join, here are a few reasons: Youll save up to $650 per paramedic visit. For a fee of $48 a year, youll be covered for unlimited paramedic services and emergency ambulance transportation-with no out-of-pocket expenses. Membership covers anyone at the subscribing address, whether a residence or business-for example, family members, guests, customers, or employees. Non-members are billed for the full cost for paramedic assistance - up to $650 per visit. Theres no paperwork or bills, whether youre insured or not. The health plans of insured individuals are billed directly. In this case, Fire Medics membership covers everything related to paramedic and emergency ambulance services not covered by insurance. Archived September 21, 2008 What is the Bluffs Message Board?
The Bluffs Message Board is a new feature of our community website. The first request for this feature dates back to September 2007, when one homeowner wrote to say: I'd love to see a Yahoo message board-type area for babysitters, rentals, moms groups postings, etc.
Then a few days ago we received the following question from another homeowner: Is there any way to communicate amongst the homeowners with young children? The HOA has a fairly large population of seniors and retirees and those of us who are younger and have young children would like to get to know each other. There seemed to be quite a few at the concert this evening and we would like some means of getting in contact in order to get to know these other families.
In an effort to meet the communication needs of our community we have created our Message Board. Some may wonder what a Message Board is.
· A Message Board allows residents to share thoughts and post questions for other residents to respond to.
· The Message Board has restricted access, reserved for website registered users only. The user must be logged in to access the Message Board.
· Categories are created to keep things organized. Posts are searchable.
· Residents can create topics.
· Each post to the Message Board shows the person's name that authored the post along with the date.
· When a new post is added to the message board it is instantly viewable on the website. New posts are not approved prior to being added to the website.
· Additionally, the website administrator is immediately notified via e-mail of new posts so that the administrator can monitor and edit/delete inappropriate posts.
Visit our Message Board. You will see the following basic rules:
|
Please help keep the message board friendly and useful for your fellow residents:
|
- While debating and discussion is fine, we will not tolerate negative, rude, unlawful or offensive messages.
- Refrain from posting meaningless messages such as one word or short replies.
- No advertising, promoting or spamming.
- You may post a relevant link to an external website by entering the entire web address (include the http://www).

Vehicles & Parking ~ A "Crash" Course for Bluffs' Residents
Consider the following scenarios:
- Its moving day and as night falls you look at your garage and try to figure out how in the world are you going to park your vehicles in a garage that is clearly still filled with moving boxes;
- Its 10PM and unexpected guests arrive from out of town and request to spend the night;
- You arrive home from work and your garage door will not operate, so you cant get your car in the garage;
- Your child comes home for semester break or for the summer.
What do you do? You know there are parking rules, but you cannot remember the rules and you cant find your copy of the Rules and Regulations. Weve all had days like this and so we thought we would give you a few helpful hints on what to do.
1. Remember as a Bluffs' property owner or tenant you have agreed to follow the Community Rules and Regulations.
2. Dont panic, use common sense and remember assistance is available.
3. If it is Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:30AM and 5:00PM call the Bluffs' office at 949-759-1200. The office staff will help you through the process of Safelisting your vehicle(s).
4. If it is outside of normal office hours, then call Patrol One at 714-541-0999 or 949-367-8055, they will assist you in Safelisting your vehicle(s).
5. If you have access to a computer then go to Patrol Ones website and follow the easy instructions to Safelist your vehicle(s).
6. If you are without a copy of the Rules and Regulations, your phone is not working and you dont have an internet connection, then you might try asking a neighbor for information. Remember our neighbors are happy to share helpful hints.
7. Dont take chances, dont ignore warning citations. Remember, according to the Rules and Regulations, vehicles can and will be towed.
For more information regarding the Parking Permit Application Process and the Safelisting Process, please visit our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) Page.

Archived June 16, 2008 Happy Father's Day
Garrison Keillor (A Prairie Home Companion) once said: 'Look at Father's Day. All year long, we dads look forward to Our Day and think, "Well, maybe this year there will be a big parade. A Dad's drill team, twirling rakes. A unit of Catholic priests in their big black shoes. A float with the Boston Pops on it." And then, nothing. No fireworks, no music. A few people murmur "Happy Father's Day" and that's it. It's about as festive as Arbor Day or National Pickle Week.'
All kidding aside, June 15, 2008, we will celebrate Father's Day and remember those men in our lives that fathered us by nature or nurture. If our fathers have passed we will take a minute out of the day and think back to days of our youth, growing up with our fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, special uncles or even a big brother who guided and shaped us, in their own way, to be the person we are today.
If you have a special photo to share with your neighbors commemorating Father's Day, send it to info@bluffshoa.com and we will add it to our new photo album to honor that special dad in your life.
Archived December 14, 2007 Do You Know About The Newport Beach Fire Department's ~ Fire Medic Program?
There is probably not a day that goes by here in The Bluffs that the Newport Beach Fire Department does not respond to one of our neighbors for a medical emergency. Quite often the Paramedics end up transferring a patient by ambulance to Hoag Hospital or another local medical facility. If you or a family member has been transported by ambulance, you, no doubt, know how expensive this can be and how involved a health insurance claim can be for this service type.
The City of Newport Beach offers a unique program called the Fire Medic Program.
If you are wondering why you should join, here are a few reasons:
Youll save up to $650 per paramedic visit.
For more information or to sign-up, you can call (949) 644-3383. Also, you can visit the City of Newport Beachs website page

A city building, you experience when you walk; a suburban building, you experience when you drive. Helmut Jahn (b. January 4, 1940) a German-American architect, is the designer of dozens of major buildings throughout the world.
Driving by the Eastbluff Village Center, most Bluffs residents and visitors have, over the past several months, watched with anticipation the construction of the building located at the corner of Vista del Sol and Vista del Oro. This new building will be home to new businesses such as Eastbluff Medical Walk-In Clinic & Wellness Center and Newport Orthodontics & Children's Dentistry.
Perhaps as a Bluffs resident, you have wondered why, in the last month, this buildings roof has been replaced from flat roof tiles to barrel roof tiles and artificial rafter tails have been added to all elevations of the building. The short answer is that The Irvine Company determined after the installation of the flat roof tiles that it would be best to match the appearance of the roofs of the other buildings in the center. However, you might be interested to know that some of our neighbors felt so strongly about the original appearance of the new building that they decided to contact The Irvine Company about their concerns. Most particularly, one Bluffs resident, John Burrows, took the time to write Keith C. Eyrich, President of The Irvine Company ~ Retail Properties.
In an effort for you to better understand Mr. Burrows issues and the timely response by The Irvine Company, below you will find copies of Mr. Burrows letters and a copy of The Irvine Companys response which includes all of the changes The Irvine Company is planning as they complete this structure and landscaping.
As Mr. Burrows said in his November 1, 2007, letter to The Irvine Company, The change of roof tile and the added faux rafters goes a long way to marrying the new building to the rest of Eastbluff Village Center. Thank you very much. I have heard many positive comments from others in the neighborhood. Stay tuned.

Archived November 20, 2007 City of Newport Beach Announces Water Fluoridation
According to a recent mailing from the City of Newport Beach: Starting November 19, 2007, Metropolitan Water District (MWD) will begin adding fluoride to the water that it serves to Newport Beach. In line with recommendations from the California Department of Public Health, as well as the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, MWD will adjust the natural fluoride level in the water, which ranges from 0.1 to 0.4 parts per million, to 0.7 to 0.8 parts per million. Currently the City of Newport Beach receives approximately 18% of its water from MWD and 82% from its ground water well sources. The City of Newport Beach will not be adding fluoride to its well sources. The City of Newport Beachs ground water well sources contain a natural occurrence of fluoride. This level ranges from 0.2 to 0.4 parts per million, with an average of 0.3 parts per million. The City of Newport Beach is currently blending its water sources in the distribution system, so fluoride levels will vary depending on service area. Residents will see fluoride levels ranging between 0.2 and 0.8 parts per million. Also beginning this November, the City of Newport Beach will begin a fluoride monitoring program to monitor the levels of fluoride throughout the distribution system.
If you need more information about water fluoridation including the Metropolitan Water District's Position, Frequently Asked Questions about fluoridation, and Questions and Answers from October 9, 2007 Study Session on Water Fluoridation, then you can visit the citys website section on Fluoridation. On this web page you will find many useful links to learn more about this subject.
Neighbors Helping Neighbors ~ Please Take Precautions! One of our Bluffs' neighbors was the victim of a garage break-in last evening, November 7th. Sadly, the intruders were able to remove a number of important items from her vehicle. The Newport Beach Police Department have offered the following advice: do not leave valuables in your vehicles, lock your vehicles (even if parked in your garage) and lock your pedestrian garage door. We thank our neighbor for wanting to share this advice with all of us.

Archived November 6, 2007 Nobody can do for little children what grandparents do. Grandparents sort of sprinkle stardust over the lives of little children. ...Alex Haley
Jim and Deanna Robinson, longtime residents of the Bluffs, know all about sprinkling stardust over the lives of little children. Actually, Jim has been working on a special project for his two grandsons, creating a unique costume for the boys to wear when they participate in the El Segundo Days Parade on December 1, 2007.
This isnt any ordinary costume. Actually, it is quite extraordinarya WWII fighter plane, made of corrugated paper and lots of fabulous imagination. The cockpit has room for both boys, age 10 and 4, and the plane comes complete with airplane sounds to make it very real.
Many of our Bluffs neighbors have stopped by to watch this labor of love come to fruition. As Jim says, I have had help and encouragement from all who come by to see how I am progressing, and I have even had help from internet connections I have made.
Below you will see a photo of the nearly completed plane. To view a photo album of this transformation, click here to go to our Bluffs photo gallery.
